🧂 Ingredients

  • 💧 0.75 cup (170 g) warm water
  • 🍵 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 🍬 1 pinch sugar
  • 🫒 2 Tbsp (25 g) olive oil
  • 🧂 1 tsp salt
  • 🧄 0.25 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 🍞 1 cup (120 g) bread flour
  • 🍞 1.33 cups (160 g) bread flour
  • 🧈 3 Tbsp (43 g) unsalted butter
  • 🧂 0.25 tsp salt
  • 🧄 0.25 tsp garlic powder
  • 🌿 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 🧀 some grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

  • 1 large bowl
  • 1 lightly greased bowl
  • 1 parchment-lined baking sheet

📝 Instructions

Step 1

Combine warm water, active dry yeast, and a pinch of sugar in a large bowl. Let sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2

Stir in the remaining sugar (total 1.5 Tbsp), olive oil, salt, garlic powder (optional), and 1 cup (125g) of bread flour until combined.

Step 3

Gradually add remaining bread flour until dough is tacky but manageable.

Step 4

Knead on a lightly floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Step 5

Place dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled, 45 to 60 minutes.

Step 6

Deflate dough, divide into 9 pieces, and form into 6-7” ropes.

Step 7

Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise until increased by 50%, about 20 minutes.

Step 8

Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).

Step 9

Bake for 10 to 13 minutes until light golden brown.

Step 10

Whisk together melted unsalted butter, salt, garlic powder, and dried parsley for the topping.

Step 11

Brush topping over warm breadsticks and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese (optional) if desired.

Step 12

Serve warm.
