Ingredients¶
16 oz (454 g) extra-firm tofu
2 Tbsp (30 g) low-sodium soy sauce
1 tsp (3 g) garlic powder
2 Tbsp (8 g) nutritional yeast
1 Tbsp (15 g) water
1.5 tsp (8 g) sriracha
2 tsp (9 g) olive oil
2 tsp (5 g) cornstarch
Cookware¶
bowl
oven
baking sheet
air fryer
skillet
Instructions¶
Step 1¶
If using pre-pressed super-firm or extra-firm tofu, pat dry with paper towels. Otherwise, press the tofu for 10 to 15 minutes and pat dry. Cut the extra-firm tofu into cubes, planks, or triangles. Transfer to a medium bowl.
Step 2¶
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Step 3¶
Make the marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together the low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari), garlic powder, nutritional yeast, water, sriracha (optional), olive oil (or avocado oil), and cornstarch (or arrowroot). Adjust seasoning to taste.
Step 4¶
Pour the marinade over the tofu and gently toss until evenly coated.
Step 5¶
Oven-Bake: Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Spread the tofu in an even layer with space between the pieces. Bake for 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
Step 6¶
Air-Fryer Method (Alternative): Transfer marinated tofu to the basket of an air fryer in a single layer. Air-fry at 375 °F for 10 to 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until crisp.
Step 7¶
Pan-Fry Method (Alternative): Heat 1 to 2 tablespoons of oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu in a single layer and cook for 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown and crisp.
Step 8¶
Serve warm in grain bowls, salads, veggie stir-fries, or wraps.
