Asian Sweet-and-Sour Sauce

🧂 Ingredients

Sauce

  • 🧈 2 Tbsp butter
  • 🍲 1 cup vegetable stock or broth
  • 🫑 1 cup green bell peppers
  • 🍍 6 slices canned pineapple
  • 🍍 0.75 cup pineapple juice
  • 🍚 0.5 cup rice vinegar
  • 🍬 0.5 cup sugar
  • 🧂 0.5 tsp salt
  • 🍠 0.25 tsp ginger

Thickener

  • 🌽 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 🍲 0.5 cup vegetable stock or broth
  • 🥡 2 Tbsp soy sauce

🍳 Cookware

  • 1 medium heavy saucepan
  • 1 small bowl

📝 Instructions

Step 1

Serve over a dish of chicken, vegetables, and rice. Melt in a medium heavy saucepan 2 Tbsp butter.

Step 2

Add vegetable stock or broth, diced green bell peppers, and diced canned pineapple.

Step 3

Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes. Add pineapple juice, rice vinegar, sugar, salt, and ginger.

Step 4

Simmer stirring constantly, until reduced to about 3 cups, about 35 minutes.

Step 5

Meanwhile, stir together in a small bowl cornstarch, vegetable stock or broth, and soy sauce.

Step 6

Stir into the sauce and simmer 5 minutes to thicken.
